Zaire, one of the finalists for the World Cup starting in West Germany next month, impressed when they played Fiorentina in Florence on Wednesday (May 22).

The visitors lost the match one-two, but the game was close and the Zaire players showed their speed, energy and graceful individual ball control. The only criticism expressed after the game was that they seemed to lack tactics and team cohesion..... two elements which will be very important in the World Cup play-offs.

The first half ended without score and Zaire were the first to go ahead when centre forward Ndaye forced in the ball after Fiorentina goalkeeper Superchi fumbled a shot from Bwanga. But the goal seemed to inspire Fiorentina into action and only three minutes later left winger Speggiorin headed the ball into the net to make the score one-all. Before Zaire could recover, Speggiorin hammered in the winner to make the final score two-one in the home side's favour.

SYNOPSIS: Firoentina, the Italian club side kick off in their friendly match against Zaire, (who are in the finals of the World Cup), played is Florence on Wednesday night. The first half was scoreless, but the home crowd was impressed by the individual displays of the Zaire team.

Zaire start their World Cup matches in West Germany next month. Their first game is against Scotland and the match against Fiorentina was the hardest they had to face in their warmup games.

The goals came in the second half. Zaire, now playing from right to left immediately went on the attack.

Zaire scored first when the Fierantina goalkeeper failed to hold the ball and Ndaye put the visitors one goal ahead.

But the goal seemed to inspire the home side. They gradually gained the upper hand and despite good defensive work by Zaire levelled the score in the 61st minute when Speggiorin headed in a pass from the right wing.

Zaire seemed determined to at least made the match a draw. But experts said lack of tactics and team cohesion finally led to Fiorentina winning the game two goals to one when Speggiorin again headed the ball into the net.
