  • Description

Grace...and not few thrills and spills...provided the highlights of the weekend's first-ever World Championship competition for "artistic" -- or freestyle ski-ing. It's a sport becoming better know as "hot dogging". It originated in the United States and has only recently become popular in Europe.

SYNOPSIS: Twelve countries took part in the competition, held at Isola 2,000, in France. And before the spills....the grace.

From France, the host country, Jacky Burnichon shows how to be a ballet star...on skis.

Next up was Franz Geiger, of West Germany.

And more grace, from Canadian "hot-dogging" expert Greg Athens.

But Spills this time from West Germany's Norbet Hetzenauer....a double somersault which came to grief.

Jacky Burnichon again. But this time he wasn't able to capture the same style in hot-dogging as he managed in the ballet section.

And Australian Gotfried Heger had his trouble too.

Willy Entzenberger of Switzerland, tried it another way....and he didn't have much success either.

But, just to show it can be done...Greg Athans did it all over again...and in style.
