  • Description

A spheroid pressure tank no fewer than 35 ft (10.67 metres) in diameter and weighing about 60 tons, was towed with difficulty and skill from Amsterdam along Holland's North Sea Canal to the port of Ijmuiden yesterday and then down the North Sea to Rotterdam. The tank is to be used in the Shell Nederland Chemische Fabrieken artificial rubber plant at Pernis, near Rotterdam and three more big tanks like it are being manufactured in Amsterdam to follow it to Pernis.

Many people gathered on the Canal banks to see this unusual "tow" and all concerned with the towing hoped yard for calm weather on the North Sea stretch of the journey.
