  • Description

Africans began to queue outside the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Kampala on Wednesday (30 August) in the hope of taking over businesses owned by Asians who have been ordered to leave Uganda.

The Africans--most of them small businessmen--wanted forms on which they had to submit details of their assets, liabilities, educational experience and business expertise.

Also in the queue were about eighty Asians to collect forms on which they had to list all their assets and liabilities, including stocks and ordered goods, before leaving the country.

The Ugandan government plans to act as a clearing house, first compiling a register of the Asian enterprises and then handing them out to African applicants.

President Idi Amin has ordered some 60-thousand Asians to get out of Uganda by November the 7th.
