    SYNOPSIS: About five thousand Egyptian farmers from all over the country marched through Cairo, the nation's capital, on Thursday. The demonstration was one of thanks for recent government tax concession affecting about 3,000,000 farmers.

    At the end of their march, the farmers rallied to hear speeches by government ministers -- including one of the nation's four deputy premiers, Dr. Mamduh Salem, and the Minister of Agriculture, Dr Mohamed Zaky. The majority of Egypt's 30,000,000 population are engaged in agriculture in one form or another -- mainly in the principle crops of cotton, onions, maize, wheat, millet, rice and sugar-cane.
