  • Description

MALAYSIA'S PRIME MINISTER, TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN, ARRIVED IN LONDON TODAY (SUNDAY) TO RECEIVE THE FREEDOM OF THE CITY OF LONDON AND HAVE TALKS WITH GOVERNMENT LEADERS ON ASIAN AND WORLD PROBLEMS. MUCH OF THE DISCUSSION WILL DEAL WITH LAST WEEK'S FIVE-POWER DEFENCE CONFERENCE IN KUALA LUMPUR, AT WHICH MR. DENIS HEALEY, BRITISH DEFENCE MINISTER, WAS A DELEGATE.

IN THE DEFENCE TALKS IT WAS AGREED THAT BRITAIN WOULD TAKE PART IN DEFENCE EXERCISES EVEN AFTER IT HAD WITHDRAWN THE MAJORITY OF ITS EAST OF SUEZ FORCES IN 1971. THE TUNKU IS EXPECTED TO TELL BRITISH PRIME MINISTER MR. HAROLD WILSON THIS WEEK THAT BRITAIN CAN NOT ESCAPE A CONTINUING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE AREA'S SECURITY.

IN AN AIRPORT INTERVIEW TODAY THE TUNKU WAS ASKED WHETHER HE HAD BEEN PLEASED WITH THE PROGRESS OF THE TALKS, WHICH WERE ATTENDED BY MALAYSIA, BRITAIN, AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND AND SINGAPORE.
