FRANCE'S NEW FOREIGN MINISTER, M. MAURICE SCHUMANN, HAS SAID THE GOVERNMENT WILL FOLLOW GAULLIST FOREIGN?

  • Description

FRANCE'S NEW FOREIGN MINISTER, M. MAURICE SCHUMANN, HAS SAID THE GOVERNMENT WILL FOLLOW GAULLIST FOREIGN POLICY -- BASED ON THE INDEPENDENCE OF FRANCE AND EUROPE.

AT THE ELYSEE PALACE, THE NEW CABINET WAS FORMALLY PRESENTED TO PRESIDENT POMPIDOU, FOLLOWED BY THE TRADITIONAL PHOTO-CALL.

THE FIRST CABINET MEETING WILL BE ON WEDNESDAY AND THE PRESENTATION OF THEM ALL TO THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY THE NEXT DAY.

THE PRESIDENT, MEANWHILE, HAS HAD SEPARATE MEETINGS WITH HIS EDUCATION, FINANCE AND FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTERS. IT IS FROM THE FOREIGN MINISTER THAT THE FIRST HINTS HAVE COME OF THEIR POLICY.

CONTINUITY WAS WHAT HE STRESSED -- CONTINUITY OF GENERAL DE GAULLE'S IDEAS OF AN INDEPENDENT FRANCE AND EUROPE.

PRESIDENT POMPIDOU HAS HOWEVER DECLARED THAT HE INTENDS TO PURSUE A "NEW LOOK" POLICY OF HIS OWN.
