    A GHANAIAN MODERN ART SOCIETY -- AKWAPIM SIX -- HAS OPENED ITS 14TH ANNUAL EXHIBITION OF FINE ART IN ACCRA. AKWAPIM SIX, ONE OF THE EARLIEST ART SOCIETIES IN GHANA, WAS FORMED BY SIX ARTISTS HEADED BY A DOCTOR.

    FIFTEEN ARTISTS NOW CONTRIBUTE TO AKWAPIM SIX, INCLUDING PAINTERS, SCULPTORS, A WEAVER AND A POTTER. THEY LIVE IN THE AKWAPIM DISTRICT IN GHANA'S EASTERN REGION.

    MR ALBERT OPOKU OF THE UNIVERSITY OF GHANA'S DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC AND DRAMA SAID THE SOCIETY'S AIM WAS TO PROMOTE THE APPRECIATION OF FINE ARTS, AND TO PROVIDE HEALTHY CONDITIONS FOR FREE EXPRESSION OF THOUGHT THE MEDIUM OF ART.

    SOME OF THE WORKS AT THE EXHIBITION SHOW AN AKAN HUNTERS' DANCE, A FUNERAL, A GHANAIAN TRADITIONAL DANCE GROUP AND CHIEF IN A PALANQUIN.
