  • Description

THE RULING MILITARY JUNTA IN GREECE HAS CELEBRATED THE FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF ITS POWER SEIZURE. ABOUT 80,000 PEOPLE WERE AT A MASS RALLY IN ATHENS STADIUM.

THE PRIME MINISTER, GEORGE PAPADOPOULOS, DEPUTY-PREMIER PATTAKOS, AND THE REGENT, GENERAL GEORGE ZOITAKIS, WATCHED DISPLAYS OF GREEK DANCING AND PARACHUTE JUMPING WITH OTHER MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNMENT.

BEFORE AN OFFICIAL CEREMONIAL PARADE, GENERAL ZOITAKIS OFFICIALLY OPENED AN EXHIBITION SHOWING THE WAR HISTORY OF GREECE THROUGH THE AGES. THE JUNTA HAD TO POSTPONE ITS CELEBRATIONS FROM APRIL 21, WHICH WAS THE ACTUAL TAKE-OVER DATA, BECAUSE IT COINCIDED WITH THE GREEK EASTER.

AFTER THE PARADE, PRIME MINISTER PAPADOPOULOS SAID GREEKS MUST HAVE FAITH IN THEIR COUNTRY AND IN THEIR RACE, WHICH HE SAID WAS WITNESSING A REBIRTH. HE SAID HE AND HIS GOVERNMENT WERE SATISFIED THAT THEY HAD DONE THEIR DUTY.
