  • Description

A six man Zambian Government delegation is having talks in Dar es Salaam with East African Harbours Officials over controversial increases in prot charges at Dar es Salaam and Mombassa. The talks started Thursday (May 16).

The increases, according to some Zambian calculations, could mean a 400 per cent rise in Zambia's import and export costs at the two ports. The new charges were due to come into effect on May 1. Informed sources in Dar es Salaam said Zambia was warned of the increases 13 months ago and invited to send a team to discuss them, but until this week never did.

The Zambian delegation is led by Mr. Kawesha from the Ministry of Planning and Finance.
