  • Description

Crude oil began to flow once again through the International Petroleum Corporation's installation in Tripoli on Tuesday (6 March), after a successful takeover by the lebanese authorities.

Within hours of the takeover, oil started pumping through the 20-mile pipeline and a flame belched out from the gas burn-off chimney....signalling the end of a nine-month lull in oil production at the refinery.

A special committee set up to supervise the running of the installations, took over control in the presence of Mr. Anwar Al-Sabbah, the Lebanese Minister of Economy, and Mr. Pierre Helou, the Minister of Oil and Industry.

The Lebanese authorities told newsmen just after the signing ceremony that they would honour commitments made by the IPC to its staff of about 500.

The oil flow was interrupted in June, 1972, when Iraq and Syria both nationalised IPC assets on their territories.
