Jan 22, President Tito's second day in Ceylon, was spent in the country rear Kandy. The Yugoslav leader and his wife toured one of the may tea plantations in the district, chatting with tea pickers and tasting some of the local brew.
At Kandy he was welcomed by the mayor. After a visit to the Town Hall, President Tito was driven to the Peradeniya Gardens and asked to plant a sapling to commemorate his visit. The tough sturdy Yugoslav Head of State was adept at tree-planting. After shovelling the earth back and smoothing and patting the ground round the tree, he washed his hands.
Later he returned to Colombo, the capital, for further talks with Premier Bandaranaike.
Tito's Asian tour has included visit to Indonesia, India and Burma. Yugoslav reporters following the President were told, at a Press Conference, the neutralist Asian countries he has visited will remain "uncommitted and independent." Other countries on his itinery include Ethiopia, the Sudan and the UAR - he will tour these on the return journey to Yugoslavia.
