Background: VISNEWS filmed - June 13 at Nicosia, the last formal ceremonial parade held in Cyprus to mark the official Birthday of Her Majesty the Queen.
Her Majesty was represented by the Governor of Cyprus, Sir Hugh Foot, who arrived on the Parade Ground at The Moat on horseback, and carried out the inspection of the parading troops.
A 21-gun salute was fired by the 79 (Kirkee) Battery of the 29th field Regiment; Royal Artillery, and then Massed Bands marched and counter-marched.
Sir Hugh Foot was at the Saluting Base as "B" Squadron 12th. Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales's) drove past, followed by the marching columns of the Guards.
Finally the whole Parade advanced in Review Order for the Royal Salute, then, with the Governor at their head, marched off the Parade Ground.
The celebrations ended at midnight with the biggest reception ever known at Government House. The 1500 invited guests included Archbishop Makarios who had never previously visited Government House socially.
