SYNOPSIS: The World Lightweight Boxing Champion, Masao Ohba of Japan, was defending his World Boxing Association title for the fifth time in his scheduled fifteen-round fight in Tokyo on Tuesday against Chartchei Choinoi from Thailand, But the Thai challenger, a former World Boxing Council world champion, lost all hopes of a victory after failing to follow up his advantage when he surprisingly knocked down Ohba in the first round.

Ohba recovered sufficiently to fond off thirty-year-old Chartchai for seven rounds while nursing a damaged knee suffered in the first-round knock-down. Then Ohba took the advantage and began battering Chartchai unmercifully. He knocked him down several times, and had him crawling for the ropes.

Then, in the twelfth round, Ohba battered Chartchai into submission--and it was all over.
