    THE 30.58 CARAT STONE -- MEASURING 22 MILLIMETRES LONG -- WAS SOLD BY AN ANONYMOUS SWISS WOMAN COLLECTOR AND BROUGHT BY THE INTERNATIONAL JEWELLERY FIRM OF VAN CLEEF AND ARPLES.

    (CARDINAL MAZARIN WAS APPOINTED PRIME MINISTER OF FRANCE UNDER LOUIS THE THIRTEEN IN 1642. APART FROM A BRIEF PERIOD, HE STAYED IN OFFICE UNTIL HIS DEATH IN 1661).
