Background: The fifteenth International Trade Fair in Algiers has been drawing large crowds since it was opened last Wednesday, (20 September). Many major trading nations are exhibiting manufactured goods, and several African Liberation Movements also have stands at the fair.
SYNOPSIS: This annual event attracts exhibitors from all over the world. They display commercial, agricultural and cultural exhibits, and use the fair as a showcase for their latest innovations.
It was opened by members of the ruling Algerian Revolutionary Council. The ceremony was attended by several ministers as well as official guests. One of the attractions was groups of traditional Algerian dancers and artists who performed for the guests at the opening.
Libya had a pavilion at the fair, and Bulgaria displayed its most modern farming and warehouse machinery.
The British exhibit displayed photographs of co-operative projects now being constructed in algeria with contributions from British technology.
Eighty-five percent of the working population of Algeria is employed in agriculture, and efforts to improve rural conditions and agricultural productivity are a high priority. This makes the Algerians eager to take advantage of the most modern farming equipment from around the world.
The Algerian Trade fair is an opportunity to promote the exchange of technical expertise.
