  • Description

The Chamonix Grand Prix had perforce to be cancelled owing to a raging blizzard and huge snowdrifts.

The Grand Prix is an annual two-day event and its cancellation has caused considerable disappointment. But it is just another victim of the extreme wintry conditions that are sweeping Europe and Great Britain.

The Savoyards say that the snowfall and blizzards this year are of unparalleled severity.

At Houches the skiers find themselves in somewhat strange circumstances. Instead of firm hard going underfoot - or under ski - they find themselves skinging along up to the waist in deep soft snow. But the going appears to be reasonably good, as these pictures show. A little dangerous, perhaps, because obstacles are completely obliterated.
