    LIEUTENANT COLONEL J.W.G. GRAY, COMMANDER OF THE HADHRAMI BEDOUIN LEGION, WAS MURDERED BY GUNMEN NEAR MUKALLA, IN THE EASTERN AREA OF THE ADEN PROTECTORATE, YESTERDAY (FRIDAY).

    COLONEL GRAY, A BRITON, WAS RETURNING FROM A CINEMA WITH HIS WIFE THEN THE GUNMAN ATTACKED. COLONEL GRAY WAS WOUNDED IN BOTH LUNGS, BUT MANAGED TO DRIVE TWO MILE TO THE BRITISH RESIDENCY IN MUKALLA, WHERE HE DIED. HIS WIFE WAS CRITICALLY WOUNDED IN THE INCIDENT. SHE WAS LATER FLOWN BY AN R. A. F. AIRCRAFT TO HOSPITAL IN ADEN.

    COLONEL GRAY, WHO WOULD HAVE BEEN 56 YEAR-OLD ON MONDAY (AUGUST 1ST), HAD COMMANDED THE HADHRAMI BEDOUIN LEGION FOR SEVEN-AND-A-HALF YEARS.
