Background: The Soviet Union is constructing a high-altitude electric power station at Rogun, Soviet Central Asia, which will boast, at 335 metres (365 yards) the world's highest weir. Fed by waters of the Vakhsh River, the station will have a capacity of 3,600.000 kilowatts, making it the largest in Central Asia. The plant is being constructed in an isolated gorge between high mountains, requiring conveyor units placed in specially excavated tunnels to replace the non-existent roads.
