  • Description

Italy is now being wracked by the most serious political crises since the unification of the country a century ago. Spiralling inflation, unemployment and political turmoil are encouraging a polarisation of the extrems Left and Right.

One of several nec-fascist parties which is gaining ground among middle-classe young people is the Movement Sociale Italiano di Destra ??? or Right Front, Which says that men are not born equal and lays itreas on fascist educational polices to improve Italy's position.

These thousand young supporters of the Destra Nazionale marched through Rome on Saturday evening (16 November) in support of their theories. They held high bannets and chanted slogans against Signor Franco Malistile the ??? Minister responsible for the educational reform in Italy, and against the Communist Party. They also shouted their support of the racent Right-wing coup attempt
The marchers heard a speech by Signer Anderson, Secretary of the Youth Movement of the Destra Nazionale and then dispersed without incident.

SYNOPSIS: Spiralling inflation, unemployment and political turmoil have resulted in sharper contradictions between Left and Right in Italy. These young marchers, belong to the neo-fascist Destra Nazionale or Right Front. They held a rally in Rome on Saturday night to protest against proposed reforms in Italy's educational system. The Destra Nazionals has as one of its central dogmas the theory that men are not born equal. It holds that education must be made much more selective instead of continuing the present equalitarian policy. As the students marched through the streets they waved placards and shouted slogans against the Communists.

Solidarity and patriotism were the points the young people tried to stress as they carried the Italian National flag and linked arms across the street.

However peaceful this particular demonstration, it was yet another example of the Right-wing renaissance in Italy. This rebirth of fascism has been heralded since the Milan bombing five years ago by a series of murders and bombings throughout Italy.

The Des tra Nazionale commands three million votes in Italy and is the official Parliamentary Party of the extreme right.

Another side to the Destra Nazionale can be seen here -- a para-military unit.

The three thousand young marchers were addressed by the Youth Secretary of Destra Nazionale, Signor Anderson. While on the march they openly shouted in favour of the recent attempted coup by the neo-fascists.
