    United States Secretary of State Henry Kissinger arrived in Cairo on Tuesday (5 November), at the start of a new middle East mission seeking further progress towards peace in the area.

    Ninety minutes after flying to Cairo from Rome, Dr. Kissigner has plunged into a first round of talks with Egyptian President Anwar Sadat. Egypt Foreign Minister Ismail Fahmy, who had welcomed Dr. Kissinger at the start of his new mission, was also at the talks.

    After second session of discussions the following morning, President Sadat declared that "the doors for progress are still open" in the search for a lasting Middle East peace settlement. He added that the United States has a significant role to lay in achieving this progress.

    Dr. Kissinger's now mission comes int he wake of the Arab summit in Rabat, at which leaders agreed that the Palestine Liberation Organisation should speak for all Palestinians. The Secretary of State declared that he did not believe this would be a "block" to peace.
