  • Description

Ministers of Education from sixteen French-speaking African and Malagasy countries, together with representatives from Mauritius, Canada and Belgium, are taking part in their twenty-fourth Conference, which opened in Paris on Monday.

Their last meeting was last February at Bangui, in the Central African Republic.

Although all of the French-speaking African countries were independent by 1960, they have remained to some extent dependent of French aid and trade, and monetarily they are all involved in the Franc Zone.

Their educational systems are directly modelled on the French system, hence a Conference of French-speaking Education Ministers can discuss matters of detail which still concern all those taking part.

At the Paris conference the Ministers will be discussing reforms already begun in secondary education, and also technical and professional training.
