    Australian tennis player, Dianne Formholtz, won her way through to the quarter finals of the United States Open Tennis tournament on Tuesday (7 September). She beat Janet Newberry of the United States 6-2, 6-4.

    SYNOPSIS: Miss Fromholtz was seeded tenth and Miss Newberry was suffering, after, undergoing a knee operation earlier this year.

    Miss Newberry battled gamely in the first set, but couldn't answer Miss Fromholtz's shots. Here, playing at the far end of the court, she trails by 15 to 40 and by two games to five in the first set.

    Miss Newberry rallied in the second set. She won three straight games, breaking Miss Fromholtz's serve to love in one game, and with the loss of only one point in the other. Here she won a game to make the score 5-4 in Miss Fromholtz's favour.

    Then Miss Fromholtz regained her advantage and she broke her opponent's service with strong play form the back court. She won by 6-2, 6-4.
