    May 25 was African liberation Day. It marked the anniversary of the founding of the Organisation of African Unity and a reception was held in Peking, People's Republic of China, in honour of the occasion.

    Diplomatic envoys of African countries to China were guests of the "Chinese People's Association For friendship with Foreign Countries" and the "Chinese-African People's Friendship Association". The reception was held in one of the large banquet halls in Peking.

    Wang Kuo-chuan, leading member of the "Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries" addressed the reception. He said that "the situation in Africa.... is excellent. The struggle of the independent African countries... has continuously won new victories." He emphasized that "the african countries together with the small and medium countries on other continents are getting further united to... play a more and more important role in international affairs". Mr. Wong concluded his remarks by reaffirming China's support and friendship for the African nations.

    The Malian Ambassador to China, Assane Guindo, spoke at the reception on behalf of the African diplomatic envoys in Peking. He acknowledged Chinese support for African people.

    Following the speeches, hosts and guests exchanged toasts. They toasted the safeguarding of national independence and the friendship and unity of the peoples of China and Africa.

    SYNOPSIS: On May 25 a large reception was held in Peking, People's Republic of China to mark the ninth anniversary of African Liberation Day. Diplomatic envoys of African countries to China were guests of honour at the reception. When the two speakers of the evening arrived they were given a warm welcome. They were Wang Kuo-chuan, leading member of the "Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries" one of the organisation sponsoring the reception, and the Malian Ambassador to China, Assane Guindo.

    Mr. Wand and Ambassador Guindo dined with the other Chinese and African officials in the large banquet hall.

    Following the dinner, Mr. Wang addressed the reception. He said that the situation in Africa was excellent. He noted that African countries along with small and medium size countries on other continents were uniting to play an increasingly important role in world affairs. Mr. Wang concluded his remarks by reaffirming China's support and friendship for African nations.

    Ambassador Assane Guindo spoke to the reception on behalf of African diplomatic envoys in Peking. He acknowledged Chinese support for African people in their struggle to achieve fraternity and peace.

    Following the speeches, hosts and guests exchanged toasts to the friendship and unity of the peoples of China and Africa.
