  • Description

Negotiations have opened in Brussels between Argentina and the European Community to reach new no-preferential trade agreements. The Argentine Ambassador to Belgium, Senor Leopoldo Tettamanti, heads his country's delegation to the talks. Taking the chair at the talks is Herr Ernst, the Director of External Relations for the Commission of the European Communities.

Senor Tettamanti told the meeting that Argentina was the country worst hit by the Common Market's variable levies on imported farm produce. He pointed out that between 15 and 20 per-cent of the European community's levy income came from imports from Argentina.
