Transcript: Gowon: "Some of the assumptions which have affected the course of human relations for so long include the relations between America and the continent of Africa, which are now being examined. On the one hand, American society itself appears to be grappling with a complex of social, political and economic changes in an effort to come to terms with realities of this age. On the other hand, Africa, many of whose countries achieved independence in the last decade, is generally moving from a position of pride and glamour of the achievement of independence to that of translating independence into realities of modern nation-building. Both continents need therefore to re-examine frankly and soberly the elements of their mutual relations in this fast changing world."
