    SPEECH ON FILM (TRANSCRIPT)

SEQ. 5: REPORTER: "Can you tell us what happened here?"

FACHINETTI: "Well, at 5.25, we hear a big explosion. So we come out, and see all the house destroyed and the car also, and we just take it as a bomb as you are supposed to hear. As you see the holes here -- I don't know the reason or why they did it."

REPORTER: "Was there anyone injured inside the house?"

FACHINETTI: "No, fortunately nobody. (Indistinct) the house was damaged."

REPORTER: "Do you have any idea why this happened?"

FACHINETTI: "No idea, because I think we keep apart from any activities, and because I don't know why it would be my wife when all of a sudden the door blasted and all the glasses fell........on her, on top of her. But fortunately she didn't get injured."

REPORTER: "Was there anybody else in the house at the time?"

FACHINETTI: "Yes, my kid, my child lives behind here."

Background: INTRODUCTION: Political violence has continued in El Salvador, with two bombs exploding in the capital, San Salvador. Left-wing guerrillas have been trying to overthrow the U.S.-backed government in the country since 1979. In the latest fighting, which began in January, about a thousand guerrillas and a hundred and fifty government soldiers have died.

SYNOPSIS: At dawn on Wednesday (4 February), a bomb blast rocked this bank, on a street where many businesses have been targets. Outnumbered and outgunned by government troops, guerrillas are turning their attention to economic targets. But civilians have not escaped the violence. Senor Luigi Fachinetti had a narrow escape when a bomb wrecked his home.

Senor Fachinetti and his family were lucky, but many thousands of innocent people have died in El Salvador's undeclared civil war, which continues unabated.
