  • Description

A plotter jailed last year after attempting to overthrow Egyptian President Anwar Sadat was on Thursday (May 11) allowed to keep his personal property after a state bid to impound it failed in a sequestration court. He is Mahmud el Saadany, one of a group of plotters including former government ministers jailed last October for planning a coup against President Sadat.

During Thursday's court decisions, however, the judges ruled that the properties of former Vice-President Aly Sabry and four other plotters should be impounded by the state. Saadany was one of six against whom the state sequestration failed.

SYNOPSIS: In C???iro on Thursday, one of sixty-three plotters jailed last October for planning to overthrow Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, was in court to hear a verdict on a state bid to impound his property. He was Mahmudel Saadany, whom the judges decided should keep his property. They rejected the state bid to take it over, and passed similar verdicts in favour of five other plotters.

Saadany was among the lucky ones. For the same court upheld state bids to impound the property of several of the plotters, including former Vice-president Aly Sabry and three former senior ministers.
