    THEY WERE FORMALLY WELCOMED BY BRITAIN'S PRIME MINISTER, MR. HAROLD WILSON. THE AGENDA FOR THE FIRST DAY'S MEETING PROVIDED FOR A REVIEW OF THE INTERNATIONAL SCENE DURING WHICH EACH DELEGATE WAS TO DEAL SPECIFICALLY WITH THE PROBLEMS AFFECTING HIS PARTICULAR AREA OF THE WORLD.

    IN HIS WELCOMING ADDRESS, MR. HAROLD WILSON, WHO IS THE CONFERENCE CHAIRMAN, REFERRED PARTICULARLY TO FIVE NEW MEMBER NATIONS -- MAURITIUS, BARBADOS, SWAZILAND, LESOTHO AND BOTSWANA -- WHO HAVE WON INDEPENDENCE FROM BRITAIN SINCE THE LAST CONFERENCE WAS HELD IN 1966.

    THE OPENING DAY WAS RESERVED FOR DISCUSSIONS ON PEACE PROSPECTS IN VIETNAM AND THE MIDDLE EAST, THE IMPLICATIONS OF CHINA'S FOREIGN POLICY, PROBLEMS OF SOUTHERN AFRICA AND CARIBBEAN DEVELOPMENTS.
