    There hundred women staged a torchlight march in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, at the weekend (28 August) to show their support for President Anwar Sadat. He's bee nominated for a second term of office.

    SYNOPSIS: The marchers represented women's organisations and groups throughout the city, and congregated at the People's Assembly building. Since the People's Assembly nominated President Sadat for his second six-year term last week (25 August), similar marches to demonstrate the faith of the Egyptian people in their leader have been held.

    Although the president will face a public referendum on 16 September, his election is regarded as a foregone conclusion. Mr. Sadat came to power in 1970 after the death of Gamal Abdel Nasser. During president Sadat's term of office, Egyptian women have made great strides in education, industry and business and to encourage the president's interest in their welfare the marchers' leader, Mrs. Karima El???usi, presented a document of support to the Deputy Speaker, Elh???sieni Abdul Latif.
