  • Description

Israel, on Thursday (14 February), returned 15 Egyptian soldiers captured on the Suez Canal front after the October war last year.

The transfer was made at a United Nations' checkpoint between Beluza and the town of East Kantara at the northern end of the Canal.

The prisoners were driven to the checkpoint in a bus with its windows blacked out, and were handed over to waiting Egyptian army officers and Red Cross officials.

More than 60 Egyptian soldiers -- who either wandered into Israeli line??? or gave themselves up -- were captured by Israel after the October war.

Last month, Israel returned six wounded Egyptians, and earlier this week, a group of nine civilians were returned after they had strayed across Israeli lines.
