  • Description

The boeing Company in Seattle, Washington, has designed changes in the interior of the Boeing 747 jumbo jet -- with three decks instead of the traditional two. The company says the lower deck can be used as a lounge, sleeping compartment, duty-free shop, dining-room for first-class passenger or a cafeteria on charter flights.

This film, shot by the Company, comes at a time when many airlines are struggling against financial difficulties; faster aircraft are costing more money, as are larger ones. The new Boeing interior is designed to make flying in jumbo jets even more attractive.

SYNOPSIS: The Boeing 747 jumbo jet is the largest commercial aircraft presently in service -- and most jumbo's have two decks for passengers, the main deck and the upper lounge. Now, the Boeing Compa in seattle, Washington, has made a mock-up version of what seems to be an even bigger version of the plane. In fact, the size of the plane itself remains unchanged. What Boeing has done is to design a new interior, this time with three decks. The stairway to the upper deck in the new design has been moved back to provide an unobstructed main-deck room forty-eight feet long.

Going down, the 747 stairway in the new interior design continues from the upper-deck lounge....to the main deck... and down to the lower deck -- to the space which it eh forward cargo hold on present 747's. The design is a vast improvement in comfort for first-class and economy passengers alike. And it's in line with the current trend of offering more space to attract passengers to airlines flying the jumbo's. The 747 could carry as many as 500 passenger.s But most airlines have set the limit at less then four hundred.

The additional, lower deck, Boeing says, can be designed as a lounge, sleeping compartments, a dining-room for first-class passengers or, cafeteria on charter flights. It could even be used as a duty-free shop.
