  • Description

Four people were killed and twelve others injured when a Dakota aircraft crashed shortly after take-off from Safdarjang airport in New Delhi yesterday(Saturday, 5 December). The dead included the crew of three.

The aircraft, owned by Jam Airways, a private company, was starting a flight of Jaipur, about 150 miles (240 k.m) to the south west.

Eye witnesses said the plane appeared to explode in mid-air and fall into open ground near a thickly-populated residential area. Wreckage was scattered over a wide area, and police, troops and civil aviation authorities spent some hours studying the wreckage for a clue to the cause of the accident.
