Background: Several hundred demonstrators from West Germany, France and Switzerland marched through the small town of Wyhl, West Germany, on Monday (31 March) to protest over the siting of a nuclear power station near the town.

The farmers claim that the power station would alter the climate in the area and badly affect their wine crops. Wyhl lies on the Rhine and is a famous wine producing area.

The wine growers said that the power station would produce more fog which would hinder the growth of the grapes.

The projected site of the station has been taken over by squatters.
