Background: THE GHANAIAN GOVERNMENT WAS AMONG THE FIRST TO ADD ITS VOICE TO WORLD OPINION DEPLORING THE HANGING OF THREE AFRICANS IN SALISBURY, RHODESIA, LAST-WEEK. IN A NEWS CONFERENCE IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE EXECUTIONS, THE GHANAIAN COMMISSIONER FOR EXTERNAL AFFAIRS, MR. P.D. ANIN, EXPRESSED HIS GOVERNMENT'S "INDICATION AT THIS CALLOUS ACT OF THE DESPOTIC REGIME".

MR ANIN CALLED ON THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT TO CRUSH ONCE AND FOR ALL THE "TWO-YEAR-OLD REBELLION OF MR IAN SMITH AND HIS RACIST HENCHMEN".

HE SAID GHANA HAD ALWAYS ARGUED IN FAVOUR OF THE USE OF FORCE AGAINST THE SMITH REGIME, BUT HAD ALSO CONCEDED THAT IT WAS BRITAIN'S RESPONSIBILITY TO USE SUCH FORCE. THE GHANA GOVERNMENT, ALONG WITH ALL AFRICAN GOVERNMENTS, WAS AWAITING ANXIOUSLY THE NEXT MOVE BY THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT.

HE CLAIMED THE ILLEGAL REGIME CONTINUED TO CONSOLIDATE ITS POSITION AND HAD PERPETUATED WHITE DOMINATION IN THE COUNTRY BY ELIMINATING ALL AFRICAN OPPOSITION.
