  • Description

The 17th of September was the last Friday in the Islamic month of Ramadan and it was a day of special significance for Moslems.

SYNOPSIS: In Amman, Jordan, thousands gathered at the Al-Hussein Grand Mosque for congregational prayers. Many believed that because it was the last Friday in their holy month of Ramadan, their blessings for going to the mosque would increase many times. As usual, they performed their ablution ceremonies just outside the mosque before entering for the start of the service. But several were caught short as the Muezzin shouted the call to prayer.

A few years ago, thousands of Jordanians journeyed to Jerusalem on this day pry at the Al-Aksa Mosque. But with Jerusalem now in Israeli-occupied territory, they use the Al-Hussein Mosque instead. During the month of Ramadan, Moslems are required to fast from sunrise to sunset every day. The fasting will end with the sighting of the new moon, when the festival of Eid-ul-fitr will be held.
