President William Tolbert of Liberia arrived in the Tanzanian capital, Dar Es Salaam on tuesday(3 July) for his first visit to the country.

Background: President William Tolbert of Liberia arrived in the Tanzanian capital, Dar Es Salaam on tuesday(3 July) for his first visit to the country.
His first official act later the same day was to formally declare open the Saba Saba International Trade Fair in which 14 foreign countries are exhibiting, alongside 65 local participants.
President Tolbert has come to Tanzania for formal talks with President Julius Nyerere. But during his week-long visit he will also visit Zanzibar for one day. On Thursday(July 5) he goes north to Arusha to visit game parks and co-operative villages in the region.
On Saturday (July 7) the 19th anniversary of the founding of the Ruling Tanganyika African National Union party President Tolbert will address a mass party rally. He is also due to inspect progress on the Tanzam railway which will link Dar Es Salaam to the Zambian copper fields.
The Saba Saba International Trade Fair, which is part of the 19th anniversary celebrations of TANU, has the highest number of foreign exhibitors this year that it has ever had.
