Background: INTRODUCTION: Rugby Union ... and England defeated Argentina's Pumas 12-6 on Saturday (6 June) to win the second game of a two-match international series. It was a fierce and absorbing contest with a high standard of play on both sides. The first match was drawn 19-19 -- England captain Bill Beaumont praised the Argentine team saying they were a very hard team to beat.
SYNOPSIS: It's scrum-down in the second half at Buenos Aires. England, in white, had built a lead of six-nil by this time with two fine penalties from Hare. A ruck gave Smith his chance to prise open the defence with a strong dummying break. Davies timed his supporting run to perfection to score a try under the posts.... The score was brought to 12-nil by Hare's successful conversion.
Twenty minutes later, after three successive Argentine scrummages, Pumas' number eight Travaglini plunged over to score a try. This was converted by Porta to bring the final score to 12-6 for England. The Pumas lost the series but clearly demonstrated the high standard of play they have reached.
