    President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto of pakistan arrived at Beirut airport on Tuesday (30 May) for a one-day visit. The Pakistani leader is on a 13-day tour of 14 Arab and african countries to discuss his country's problems with India.

    At the airport, the Pakistani leader was greeted by President Suleiman Franjeih who was accompanied by his wife. The two leaders inspected a guard of honour and then drove into the capital for talks.

    A joint communique issued at the end of the talks said that lebanon and Pakistan had expressed the hope that the projected meeting between President Bhutto and Indian Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi next month will prove fruitful within the framework of the United Nations Charter. President Bhutto and Mrs. Gandhi are due to meet in India on June 28.

    In the communique, President Bhutto thanked Lebanon for its support in efforts to restore a durable peace in the south Asian sub-continent.

    President Franjeih expressed the conviction that the people of pakistan would triumph over present difficulties.

    Referring to the situation in the Middle East in the communique, President Bhutto reaffirmed Pakistan's solidarity with the Arab cause and said peace in the region could be established only through the withdrawal of Israeli troops from what were called "occupied territories".

    SYNOPSIS: A Pakistani airliner flew into Beirut on Tuesday with President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto aboard. He was making a one-day visit for talks with Lebanese President Suleiman Franjeih.

    The Pakistani leader was making a 13-day tour of 14 Arab and African countries to discuss his country's problems with India.

    A big crowd was on hand to greet the Pakistani leader.

    At the end of the day's talks, a joint communique was issued. It said that Lebanon and Pakistan had expressed the hope that the projected meeting between President Bhutte and Indian Prime Minister Mrs. Gandhi would prove fruitful within the framework of the United Nations Charter. President Bhutte and Mrs. Gandhi are due to meet in India next month.
