    Leading statesmen, intellectuals, politicians and diplomats from the United States and Africa arrived in Lagos at the weekend for an Afro-American conference. They included Senator Edmund Muskie, tipped as a future United States President, and Botswana's President, Sir Seretse Khama. They will lead discussions on "African-American relations in the 70s". Nigeria's leader, Major-General Yakubu Gowon, is due to open the conference on Monday (8 March).
