    A 720-TON STEEL CASING WHICH IS TO BE USED IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF AN UNDERWATER TUNNEL ON THE NUMBER ONE EXPRESSWAY NEAR THE TOKYO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT WAS RECENTLY TOWED BY TUGBOATS TO THE CONSTRUCTION SITE.

    THE ISHIKAWAJI HEAVY ENGINEERING COMPANY, WHO BUILT THE STEEL CASING AT A COST OF THREE HUNDRED MILLION JAPANESE YEN, WILL SINK IT AT THE MOUTH OF THE EBITORI RIVER - LINKING THE AIRPORT TO THE CITY.

    THOUGH THE NUMBER ONE EXPRESSWAY ITSELF IS PARTIALLY COMPLETED, THE CONSTRUCTION MINISTRY, HOWEVER, IS CONFIDENT THAT WORK ON THE PROJECT WILL BE COMPETED ONE MONTH BEFORE THE START OF THE 1964 TOKYO OLYMPIC GAMES.

    THE EXPRESSWAY, WHICH IS ONE OF SEVERAL UNDER CONSTRUCTION ALL OVER JAPAN, WILL CUT DOWN THE TIME OF TRAVEL FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE CITY BY MORE THAN TWENTY-MINUTES.
