    The two-week old conference was in difficulties from Wednesday last week (3 November) on the issue of deciding a date for the independence of Rhodesia. The four african nationalist leaders attending the talks had been insisting this should be settled before going on to other business.

    SYNOPSIS: Mr. Robert Mugabe was one of the black Rhodesian nationalist leaders who spent time with Mr. Ivor Richard, the British chairman of the conference, along with another black leader, Mr. Joshua Nkomo. Afterwards Mr. Richard gave his views on the latest development -- and so too did Mr. Pieter Van Der Byl, the white Rhodesia Foreign Minister.
