CHARLES: "There are many others whose contribution to the well being of mankind, especially in Africa, has been, and continues to be substantial. Educational institutions such as Achimoto will continue to have an important role to play in the education of future leaders of this continent, and in the development of an attitude to life which comprises a sense of proportion, tolerance and personal integrity. A few days ago, on 14th March, we celebrated Commonwealth Day. Here in ghana this coincided with an important Commonwealth Conference, which is today completing its deliberations, will, I am sure, be of profound importance for the educational scene through-out the Commonwealth. It seems most fitting that the Government of Ghana should have been the host to such conference at this time, associated inevitably with Achimoto School which has done so much to forge links between members of the Commonwealth".
ACHEAMPONG: "We have met here today to commemorate the formal opening of Achimoto School on the 28th of January, 1927, some five decades ago. But ion the history of our country, when we consider the progress that has been made in these momentous 50 years, it must seem more like a century. And yet there are many here who witnessed the laying of the Foundation Stone by Sir Gordon Guggisberg in 1924, and the visit of your Royal Highness' Great Uncle, the then Prince of Wales, in 1925, and the Formal Opening ceremony in 1927."
