This date was marked by a gala meeting in the Grand Kremlin Palace. The participants applauded the leaders of the party and government, veteran communists who personally knew and worked with Lenin.
Opening the meeting, Leonid Brezhnev, leader of the Communist Party, said that hundreds of million of people around the world on this day pay tribute to Vladimir Lenin.
The main speaker, Pytor Demichev, a party functionary, noted that more and more people were building their lives as Lenin had envisaged, In the decades since his death tremendous changes have taken place in the world, changes which have enveloped every sphere of life, the ideas of socialism are spreading to all countries winning over million upon millions of people.
Now that our party is advancing and making headway collectively in many fields of communist construction, he said, we are certain we are on the right road. We can see our goal ahead of us clearly. And we are following this road so firmly outlined by Lenin.
