    WINNING CAR WAS THE 3.3 LITRE V-12 FERRARI OF AMERICAN ACE MASTEN GREGORY AND AUSTRIAN JOACHEM RINDT.THEIR AVERAGE SPEED WAS 121.1 MPH AND THEY COVERED 2,862 MILES - 340 LAPS - TO WIN THE GBP4,300 FIRST PRIZE.GREGORY HAS MADE 12 ATTEMPTS TO WIN THIS RACE.

    DUMAY, A FRENCHMAN, AND GOSSELIN OF BELGIUM, WERE SECOND IN ANOTHER 3.3 PROTOTYPE FERRARI AND THE BELGIAN TEAM OF MAIRESSE AND BEURLYS COMPLETED FERRARI'S SWEEP OF THE LEADING PLACES.FERRARIS COMPRISED HALF OF THE 14 CARS WHICH COMPLETED THE RACE OUT OF 51 STARTERS.

    A BIG CHALLENGE BY AMERICAN, BRITISH AND FRENCH FORD CARS CRUMBLED EARLY IN THE RACE.ONLY ONE FINISHED OUT OF THE 11 STARTERS.THE FORD GT AND COBRAS WERE OUT OF THE RACE SOON AFTER MIDNIGHT.HOWEVER, U.S.DRIVER PHIL HILL IN HIS FORD SET UP A NEW LAP RECORD OF 138.44 MPH FOR THE 8.3 MILE CIRCUIT.AT ONE TIME HE WAS TRAVELLING AT 220 MPH.

    THIS YEAR THERE WERE NO SERIOUS ACCIDENTS AND NO DRIVERS INJURED.
