  • Description

WHILE CANADIANS DANCED IN THE STREETS AND WATCHED PARADES, THEIR COUNTRY'S 100TH BIRTHDAY AS A NATION WAS ALSO CELEBRATED IN PLACES AS FAR AWAY AS GHANA. IN ACCRA, THE CANADIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER, MR. HART, WAS HOST TO MORE THAN 100 PEOPLE AT A RECEPTION.

THE GUESTS AT THE HIGH COMMISSIONER'S RESIDENCE INCLUDED MEMBERS OF THE DIPLOMATIC CORPS AND HIGH GHANAIAN GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS.

IN 1960, GHANA AND CANADA SIGNED A TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT AND SINCE THEN MANY CANADIAN EDUCATION AND AGRICULTURE ADVISORS HAVE GONE TO GHANA TO HELP THE COUNTRY'S DEVELOPMENT.

ONE CO-OPERATIVE VENTURE IS A TRADES TRAINING CENTRE IN THE GHANAIAN CAPITAL, ACCRA. THE CENTRE IS STAFFED ON AN INTERIM BASIS BY CANADIAN INSTRUCTORS BUT A NUMBER OF GHANAIANS HAVE BEEN TRAINED IN CANADA TO TEACH AT THE CENTRE.

CANADIAN TECHNICAL ADVISERS ARE ALSO WORKING ON A PILOT FARM PROJECT AND ON AN IRRIGATION SURVEY IN NORTHERN GHANA.
