SYNOPSIS: The 15th session of the Commission of the Basin of Lake Chad was held during the last week of June in Fort Lamy, capital of Chad. Delegations from the four member states Cameroun, Niger, Nigeria and the host country - attended the meeting.
The Commission delegates heard the Executive Secretary, Mr. Tonwe of Nigeria, express disappointment with the United Nations development programme, which he said did not seem to be prepared to finance projects in the Basin, even though they had been studied by the Food and Agricultural Organisation and approved before work had begun. He also suggested the creation of a fund to supply independent financing of projects in the interests of the Lake Chad Basin.
