    Some of the finest dance troupes and musicians in south-east Asia have been performing in the Thailand capital Bangkok during the last week (ending 25 January) in the first south-east Asian Music and Dramatic Arts Festival.

    The festival was the idea of Thai Prime Minister Kukrit Pramoj. Mr. Kukrit believes the exchange of arts and culture can play an important role in promoting good understanding, peace and security between countries.

    Nai Rangsrit Chaosiri, Director General of the Fine Arts department was given the task of organising the festival. Invitations were sent to the eight countries of south-east Asia.

    On Sunday (25 January) when dancers from Laos, the Philippines, and Singapore performed, Foreign Minister Chatichai Choonhaven visited the festival and met the participants. The festival lasted from January 21 to 26.
