    Skiing...and Annemarie Moser-Proell of Austria ended another triumphant season on Tuesday (20 March) by winning a special parallel ski race int the World Cup championships at Furano in Japan. Skiing through snow flurries and fog, Frau Moser-Proell beat Heidi Pruess of the United States in the final elimination race.

    SYNOPSIS: Miss Pruess, who is seventeen and comes from Lake Port in New Hampshire, had beaten the brilliant Austrian by less than half a second in the first race. But the American teenager was to tumble in the second run, allowing her opponent a penalty point win of one and a half seconds, and overall victory. The race was over a piste of two hundred and seventy metres and through twenty gates.

    Annemarie Moser-proell comes to the rostrum to receive the trophy for winning her sixth world title. She had been world champion for five years in a row between 1971 and 1975.

    This year, the men's world Cup championship went to Peter Leuscher of Switzerland. His triumph has to be seen in perspective, because Ingemar Stenmark of Sweden is universally acknowledged as the finest skier now competing. However, Stenmark, a slalom ace who had won the World Cup three times previously, does not compete in
