    MR. AL-SHAABI HAD BEEN IN GENEVA NEGOTIATING WITH THE BRITISH ON THE FINAL TERMS OF INDEPENDENCE AIRPORT PRESS CONFERENCE IN ADEN HE SAID THAT HIS DELEGATION HAD RESISTED BRITISH PROPOSALS TO INTERNATIONALISTS PERIM ISLAND AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE RED SEA, AND TO SEND A MILITARY MISSION TO THE NEW REPUBLIC'S ARMED FORCES.

    LATER, THE GENERAL COMMAND OF THE NLF ANNOUNCED AT A BIG RALLY THAT MR. AL-SHAABI HAD BEEN APPOINTED THE FIRST PRESIDENT OF SOUTH YEMEN. IN HIS FIRST PRESIDENTIAL STATEMENT, HE SAID THE NEW STATE WOULD JOIN THE ARAB LEAGUE AND THE UNITED NATIONS. AND WOULD FOLLOW A POLICY OF NON-ALIGNING.
